Today we took our test and i did good the only problems i think i got wrong was the organization questions like NATO an the UN and UE. I liked how some of the questions were questions from the movie we watched Slum Dog Millionaire but i think I got the question wrong on the who invented the tool ( which i don't remember ) I put Sam Adams i think. I got an 85 on the test but i feel like i should have done better than that like 90

Today in class we watched slumdog millionaire for the people that were absent on Tuesday after that we talked about any questions we had after the movie. like why do they have dance sceans at the end or why Salim was in the bath tube while he was getting killed and taking out the evil millionaire that he worker for. I liked how at the beginning of the movie they ask you the question of why Jamal won the game show and gives you the four possible answers and then at the end they put it D. IT WAS WRITTEN. It was a really good movie and i am very glad we got to watch it during class instead of taking notes

11/24

Today in class we continued watching Slumdog Millionaire, and collected notes about the life Indians all they go through living in the the Slumdogs.

Lots of people rob and scam tourist to get money because they usually have a lot money and valuables.
There are many gangs and rival gangs causing a lot of violence.
Some people get orphans and train them to scam and beg. Some of the scams to make money include teaching the orphans to sing and beg for money. Some evil people viciously blind the orphans and have them beg for money because they will be able to collect more money
Jamal and his brother scammed people giving them fake tours of the Taj Mahall and they did things like make them leave their shoes while the other steals it. They would lead people away from their cars then steal everything and they would sell it for a lot of money. This is the last scean we stop on which make no sense to me right now.

Defenders of the realm,
Peace on you;
Our proud spirits will
Not be subdued.
The adobe of Arabism,
A hallowed sanctuary;
The seat of the stars,
An inviolable preserve.
Syria's plains are
Towers in the heights,
Resembling the sky
Above the clouds.
A land resplendent
With brilliant suns,
Becoming another sky,
Or almost a sky.

11/17

Today's class went by really fast to me we first talked about how Mr. Schick academic team won over the weekend and we talked about how it works and how they get and lose points. They only lost one game and now are playing in the finals which is really cool. After that he gave us some questions that would be on the things i don't remember them i just know i got 3 of them write. One was about cookie monster I know that. After we were done that we looked at a chart of the united states separated into counties and it showed what percentage of the people called soda for example pop or cola then we wrote down a definition of something he is going to explain to us the next class because we ran out of time. Or and he gave us our test back i got an 80 without the essay question.

11/14

Today in class we had our test it was hard but i think i did good. i studied alot for it but still had some things that i thought were wrong like which leader was most likely to leave first and i chose barack obama because he has 2 years left and all the other leaders have more years  or will change the laws so they stay longer another thing that scared me alittle was the essay question it was why is it unacceptable to kill the president of the united states. I don't think it is acceptable to kill him but i put it on my power point because it is a way of getting rid of a leader

But its not my fault in Mrs. Amato class her outlet doesn't work so when i tried to charge it it still died. I learned a lot of things about india and the other countries which we need to know about tomorrow for the test

11/4

today we went to the cancer awareness fair in the main hall it was really cool. On the stand closest to the academic wing they were selling the bracelets for Mr. Maynard I would have got one but I can't afford that for 10 dollars. At the second stand a guy was teaching us about testicle cancer, we learned how to tell when you have testicle cancer and to check for it all the time everyday. At  the 3rd table the girl there explain how she work for a cleaning service that goes to peoples houses to clean and if they have cancer they will clean for them for free, then she gave us a bracelet that says "God is Awesome". At the fourth table they showed us a machine that shows if you have skin damage or if you had oily skin or something like that. I had no signs of skin damage but i have really dry lips, that color was white it looked as if i had rabies, and I had really oily skin. On the last table they showed us that if you have smoked you have a very likely chance of getting lung cancer and your lungs will turn black and you would not be able to breathe OK

11/3

Today in class we worked on our project we didnt finish today but we are very close to. Today we fixed up the way we are going to write it, and we found more pictures to go with it. We added this information
-Syria's parliament speaker, Jihad Lahan, announced the final results from Tuesday's election, saying Assad garnered 10,319,723 votes, or 88.7%.
-Laham said Assad's two challengers, Hassan al-Nouri and Maher Hajjar, won 4.3% and 3.2% respectively.
-The supreme constitutional court put turnout at 73.42%
and we also found information on how he changes the votes like just "counting wrong" or bombing building threatening them that that will happen to them if they don't. All this stuff we have put onto our power point and we are still looking for thing to add to it, to make it better and longer.

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

10/28

today in class we worked on our project more me and Antony are pretty much done we just have to add some extra information like ways to get a new leader in Syria because the other one Bashar al-Assad is killing his own people and rigging elections so that he stays in office. So obliviously we cannot impeach him because he is basically untouchable. We also found out that their government, it is a republic but it is under an authoritarian regime and it has lasted for 73 years. Maybe if we get a new president Syria would be better off, I still do not even understand why he would even think of killing his own people. All in all we had a productive day, but it was really slow I hope we finish tomorrow so that I can listen to music today. If you want to see our slide show you can comment your email and we’ll invite you to watch.

10/27

Today in class we got an assignment to look up a country and find these  3 things below
1:What type of government
-Describe it in our own words
2:How long the government has been
3:What is the best way to get another leader to rule
      - describe best to worst ways to get them out of the government
We also get to work in partners for the first time in this class. My partner is Antony Saccenti (got that shout out) http://antonysaccenti.blogspot.com/ thats his blog. if you don't know him he is short and pale but has a cool porcupine head and he plays basketball. Well we got assignened syria which makes it easy for us to see how to get him out of office because a lot of people don't like him and probably sit in basements trying to figure that out

10/21

Today in class we went over what we had done the night before when we had to find interesting fact about the leaders of the the countries we researched over the weekend. I had like 5 or 6 good facts but Mr.Shick turned them down when he was ignoring me because I couldn't pronounce somebody's name. When i was reseaching there were facts that seemed innocent but when Mr. Shick explanes them seems really crazy. Stuff just like a man taking pictures with his shirt off and him becoming a black belt in judo but behind all of that he is basically telling people from other countries not to mess with him and he will hurt them if he does.

Monday, October 20, 2014

10/20

Pranab Mukherjee-His hobbies are reading, gardening and music.[3] His elder son, Abhijit Mukherjee, is a Congress MP from Jangipur, West Bengal. He was elected in the by-polls held after his father vacated the seat. Before his election, Abhijit was an MLA from Nalhati in Birbhum. His daughter is a Kathak dancer.

He published a book, A Great Game: The Forgotten Leafs and the Rise of Professional Hockey (2013), which chronicles the growth of professional hockey, particularly in Toronto, and writes articles occasionally on the subject

Elizabeth II-She was not declared the Heir Apparent when her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated because of the possibility of a male heir.
When World War II began she was a Girl Guide (British Girl Scouts) and went through the same training as the other Girl Guides her age.

10/17

Today in class we got our test back and i was preety happy because instead of getting a 87% i got a 90% because he messed up. I finally got a bell ring.   ($)           ($)
                                                                                               <
                                                                                                  ___/

Our estimated guess by Mr. Schick for what our average grade would be was a 72%. But we ended up as a class getting like a 80%. Accually according to the bored 104% but what ever. I only missed 4 questions one during the 12 computer questions i looked at the wrong thing and wrote that down I did not miss any of the vocab but i missed 3 other questions as well but i don't remember which. But we got some weekend homework. We have to get information about certain countries we have to find a picture of there leader we have to say what country the name of ther leader what kind of leader and what kind of government they have

10/14

Today in class we did homework all period because 3 kids were taking the test and we had to wait for them. So I have no idea how I am going to explain it in 150 words but it is worth a try. While we were in class I managed to complete my English assignment due on thursday about which was to study our notes on these vocab word
anathema
banter
castigate
docile
emaciated
gauche
heresy
ignominy
libation
motley

when I was done I did my math which was extremly easy and then helped jude with his because i am a nice friend. After I was done all of that I was able to play running man for 5 minutes before my computer died. then i ended up watching other people playing games also like Antony playing running man and Delaney play some game with a bolder that reminded me of run 2 on cool math games. They both played really bad ( It took Delaney 20 minutes to pass 1 level and Antony just gave up after a while). Either way today was a very boring day that we ended up doing nothing fun or very productive.

10/10

Today in human geography we took a test I thought it was some what easy but he should have gave us more time to do the part where we had to go online to the CIA World Fact Book and answer 12 questions in like 10 minute I finished but it looked like some others didn't The rest of the test just got harder but I think I did real good with the vocabulary and stuff like that. The bonus questions I don't know how he expects anybody to answer except for the first one he what was the net migration of the world, and the other was really confusing answer and he wouldn't take the test until i put an answer down so I just put I don't know and he looked at me and started laughing. If I had to guess I think I would have gotten at least a 90-95% and here that bell he rings when people get 90's

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

10/8

Today in class we reviewed what is going to be on the test we need to know the vocab words
Life Expectancy             How long your expected to live
Crude Birth Rate            How many babies are being born      !
Crude Death Rate          How many people are dieing  ! Both make next word
                      The Rate of Natural Increase
Developing nation       pre industrialization    countries starting to grow
Developed nation        post industrialization    countries growing and thriving
                      Rate of increase
                      Net Migration Rate

10/7

Today in class Mr. Schick explained to us how he was in this program for Spotify, a app you can get on phone and computers to listen to free music, that only 20-23 teachers in the world are in. Mr. Schick told us that spotifiy is looking want us to help and get songs for kids to listen to to help them study, so Mr. Schick gave us a project to find a song about migration i can be any kind of music by any artist. I think the project is really cool because we get to listen to music for a grade and they gave us free membership and songs for three months. It took like an hour to get our codes out but after we had 15 minutes to listen and share music. Somebody kept playing Anaconda by Nicki Manaj and tried to get Mr.Schck to listen to see if he liked it.

10/6

Today in class we discussed if the United States is the best country on the world. I don't think it is the best but it is close because I live here. While looking up facts in class I learned that America has the most debt in the world but is still 2nd in importing goods and 3rd for exporting goods. America is also 1 in internet host but second in internet users that means we are making a lot more websites in our country that people in other people in different countries are using. America is number 1 in getting around its country because it has more roads train tracks and airports than anyone else. In my opinion all of the countries has both positive qualities and negative qualities that make all the countries really great at the same time so there is no true best county in the world.

10/3

Today in class we watched the rest of the video that talked about population charts. We saw that russia had very few people in there 90's because of the World War 2 and people dieing. We also talked about how Cubans lived close to us so when they have bad problems like they do now the make rafts and float all the way to america and the deal is that there is a law if you make it to America before the coast gaurds catch you, you can become a free person and not have to go back. But if you do get caught, you go to jail back in Cuba. Finally we talked about how China was only allowed to have one kid they did this because the were scared the population was going to dramticly increase and the were going to not be able to pay for them.

9/24

Today in class we went over the test we took last week, i think it was an easy and i should have gotten an A on i accidentally got confuzed when Mr. Schick said that we should use wikipedia as a source but not a number 1 source. Anouther question i got wrong is "when was the "message to garcia" writen" It was accually writen in March 1899. The last thing I got wrong is that I got wrong was that the ancient greeks called an idiot. They call people that don't want to participate in politics and anything else involving the community.

9/10

Today in class we talked about how English is the international language of business which I think is really cool because it is the language that I speak which means you can also communicate with lots of other people without having to learn a new language. Another thing that we talked about is how in Maryland we might change the minimum wage from $7 per hour and change the minimum wage to be $10 per hour which would effect us in a major way. This could turn out to be a bad and good thing for us, it would be a good thing because we would all start getting a lot more money for our hour but it would also effect us in a bad way because now they would lay off or fire a lot of workers to make up for all the money being lost. A third thing we talked about is how people from other countries are starting to take our jobs because they have started working for a lot less money then we do, and that is why a lot of or clothes are from other countries as well. These things I found really interested during our discussion in class today.

3 facts from the video

Today in class we watched a video on cool and interesting facts about the internet and the population of the world, these facts are weird or just  interesting to me. The first fact is that soon China will become the number one English speaking country in the world, this is weird to me because China's first language is Chinese and now China is going to have more people speaking English as a second language than England, Canada, and the USA which speaks those languages as their main language there. The second fact that interest me is the fact about how teachers prepare us for jobs that don't exist yet in order for us to solve problems that haven't happened yet and to use technology that hasn't been invented yet. I think that's cool that our parents and teachers are counting on us to save the world and use more advanced technology and were suppose to count on our kids to save the world and use more advanced technology in the future. The third fact which I found pretty weird was that during a 4 minutes 58 sec video  694,000 songs were downloaded illegally.that is also pretty scary because songs usually cost about $1.99 online so in about 5 minutest music artist have lost $1,381,060 all together and $145,177,027,200 a year which is a lot of money to spend considering the big named artist their are. Well these are some pretty cool weird and scary facts that I found out watching the video

5 point plan to being successful in highschool

     -Be organized
Being organized is an important part to being successful because you don't want to have your work mixed in with work from other classes
     -Don't miss homework
We have homework everyday we have class and if you don't do it you would totally fail.
     -Always find make up work
If you get your make up work in on time you won't get in trouble or 50% on everything and fail.
-Keep in touch with the teacher
If you can keep contact with the teacher it is easy to make up things and get help with any questions you have about notes and work and test.
-Pay attention and participate in class
If you pay attention it makes taking notes, studying, and test taking easier.

If you follow these ways to being successful you will always pass and get good grades

Day 1 of school

Today was my first day at John Carroll and it was a really great experience. Today I rode the bus to school it was really boring because nobody really talks on the bus except the bus driver and they also have some weird stops like in front of a Mars supermarket. When I got to school I met all the kids in my advisory i'm the only kid in my advisory that's in the 9th grade besides some other girl that was home schooled. That 2 hour rotation thing that we did in the beginning of the day. All my teachers the rest of the day were really cool i had tons of free time today and got to hand out with a lot of kids I met for the first time in math we didn't really do anything interesting, in English class we did this introducing game and when it was my turn I totally messed up the girls name, and in human geography i thought the teacher was really interesting and funny, and i'm not just saying that because he's going to see this.
